Digital Art: Krsna pastime_The Message of Rukmini

'Rukmini was the daughter of king of Vidarbha, Maharaja Bhismaka who was very qualified and devoted. She was beautiful and chaste and was meant to be married to Lord Krsna. Princess Rukmini had heard lots of glories of Krsna and so without even meeting Him in person she desired to surrender herself unto His lotus feet and become His wife. Krsna had also heard of Rukmini. She was reservoir of all transcendental qualities: Intelligence, auspicious physical features, liberal-mindedness, exquisite beauty and righteous behavior. Krsna therefore decided that she was fit to be His wife. But due to the influence of her elder brother, Rukmi, she was being prepared to be given in marriage to Sisupala, a determined enemy of Krsna. Rukmini became really upset on hearing this and so decided to send a message to Krsna, and so that she might not be deceived, she selected a qualified brahmana (who is in this pic beside Krsna) to be her messenger.

When the brahmana reached Dvaraka (the place of residence of Lord Sri Krsna), he was welcomed by Krsna and worshiped exactly as the demigods would worship Krsna! In this way He taught that worshiping His devotee is more valuable than worshiping Him. After the brahmana took his bath, accepted his meals and laid down to rest on a bedstead bedecked with soft silk. While he was resting, Lord Krsna approached and, with great respect, put the brahmana's legs on His lap and began to massage them (as in this painting). After talking few sweet words of praise and well-being, Krsna desired to know the mission of the brahmana which had brought him to His palace. Thereafter the brahmana started to narrate the whole story of his mission and started reading out the letter Rukmini had written to Krsna. 

The Lord was very attentively listening to the words which Rukmini had written glorifying Him as well as her desire to marry Him. Thus the Lord decided to act quickly to save Rukmini from being married to Sisupala and thus marry her Himself.'
